Archimedes/RiscPC repairs and upgrades
Phil Pemberton, Peter Howkins, Rob Sprowson, and others
Monday 27th November 2023, 7:45pm

Note this meeting was a week later than our usual 3rd Monday of the month.

For our slightly delayed November meeting we will be discussing the common problems with old Archimedes and RiscPCs, looking at how to fix them, and what upgrades are available to help keep them running for many years to come.

Phil Pemberton will be our online guru, looking down benevolently from the big screen. He has repaired all types of Acorn machines and their descendents, and will take us through some of the faults he's seen and the best ways to tackle them. Prepare for some gruesome horror stories of disintegrated motherboards!

We will then move on to the more informal part of the meeting where everyone can talk about their own history of fixing and/or upgrading their own machines. You are encouraged to bring along your old machines. We won't be able to do any soldering in the pub, but our experts can take a look and offer advice. Or if you are an expert and have already upgraded an old machine with solid state storage, enhanced video output, etc, then bring it along to show off!

(We had several RiscPC motherboards in various states from fixed to wrecked, a repaired and upgraded A7000, and a dead A4 in pieces!)

Although the meeting will also be held online via Zoom, the very hands on nature of the subject means you will get much more out of it by joining us in the pub if you can. Plus there is plentiful food and drink :-)

Our venue is right next to Waterloo Station and there is parking directly outside. Directions here.

Note: If you haven't been to a meeting for a while, do try to drop in on this one. The pub have kindly given us their biggest/best room (for free!) even though this is into their christmas period, so please help keep us in their good books by filling the room!
